Deck Erection
Procedures
- The first deck
section well be lifted into place on Friday, January 31, 2003.
- The deck sections
will be lifted directly from the transport ship on strands hanging from
the main cable.
- Strand jacks are
mounted on the deck and take roughly 4 hours to crawl up the strands
until they reach the proper elevation.
- Ironworkers connect
the deck to the permanent suspender cables already hung from the main
cable.

- On the North Side
( Vallejo ) and in the middle of the strait some sections will be "swung"
into place using controlled diagonal strand jacks that will slowly move
the sections that are not directly over the water after they have been
lifted into position.
- On the South Side
(Crockett ) specil skids were constructed that will literally "walk"
the deck sections into place on top of the trestle constructed from
the shore to the bridge tower.
- The deck erection
phase of construction should be complete by the end of Spring
- The project estimated
cost is $220,000,000.
- Steel Deck Erection
cost is $17,200,000.
